BRUSSELL sprouts eaters are being urged to be on their guard after police revealed a stolen batch are covered in potentially dangerous chemicals.

Thieves stole around a dozen plants from a farmer's field in Hollins Green on Tuesday.

The sprouts had only recently been sprayed with insecticides which the police say are harmful if swallowed in large quantities. The insecticides are also irritants if they come into contact with the skin.

Anyone who comes into contact with the chemicals is being urged to seek medical advice by Cheshire police.

The sprouts were sprayed with Hallmark and Decis.

Both of the chemicals are in insecticides, which are commonly used in agriculture.
