A CAREER in rugby league doesn't last forever.
And a Warrington Wolves star is planning for his retirement by hitting the road.
Back rower Mike Wainwright has set up a new mini-bus hire firm, Wedge's Wheels, and hopes the company will be as long and successful as his playing career.
He told the Warrington Guardian: "I am 30 now and you realise that you can't keep going forever and that you need something to fall back on.
"Our kit man Bob Moore used a mini bus which I ended up buying and it has taken three months to get to the stage now where the business is ready to be launched.
"I am hoping to start it up now while we have got this break."
Wedge, as he is known by fans, hopes the business will go from strength to strength and has already put in a bid to take a school run.
While he isn't able to drive the bus yet himself, he is looking to get a licence.
"The bus will be available for anything from taking someone to the airport, to stag or hen parties or even grand finals or a Challenge Cup final," he said.
And it will be a busy 12 months to come for Mike who is also planning his testimonial year, which starts in January.
He said: "I still feel fresh and am enjoying my rugby at the moment and I want to play for as long as I can. I will be putting all my energies into the testimonial year and I am looking to still be employed at the club as a coach - but hopefully the business will go well and I will then be able to look at getting a fleet together."
