A WARRINGTON woman has celebrated her 100th birthday at Summerfield Nursing Home in Grappenhall.

Vera Kelly, who received the traditional telegram from The Queen, said that she had a lovely day and marked the milestone by having tea with all her fellow residents from the home.

Mrs Kelly chose the Summerfield Nursing Home as she appreciates the quiet life that is afforded in Cheshire, especially in Stockton Heath, Grappenhall and Lymm.

Born in Culcheth, Mrs Kelly enjoyed a simple life working for her father Thomas Kilshall on Yewtree Farm, and moved to Croft when she married her late husband, Charles Edward Kelly, in 1935.

Mrs Kelly started visiting Summerfield Nursing Home when she had problems with her eyesight 12 years ago, and has been a permanent resident for three years.

She has found the nursing staff to be very kind, and said: "It's very useful that we have these homes to come to."
