WARRINGTON'S B&Q Supercentre at Milner Street will be closed as part of a national cull of 22 stores.
Although bosses say they are working hard to find positions elsewhere within the company for the 44 employees.
The closures follow disastrous half-year financial results announced by parent company Kingfisher earlier this month.
The store is set to close at the end of January - although there is still a B&Q Warehouse store in Winwick.
Ian Cheshire, chief executive of the company, said: "This is B&Q getting rid of space, not excess people.
"We hope to keep most of our people and transfer their B&Q experience to other local stores.
"We also think that our customers will benefit from the change, as they will be able to shop in newer, brighter stores with the most up to date ranges to choose from."
