Padgate's finest, Steve Arnold who plays Ashley in the popular soap, has been named in national tabloid papers as one of the possible victims of a cull of some of the Street's longest serving characters.
The show's new chief Steve Frost is understood to be mulling over a list of the shows most popular characters before deciding on who should be culled.
A spokesman for the show declined to comment on the rumours.
