a 'last night'
to remember
WARRINGTON'S Male Voice Choir celebrated yet another runaway success at the weekend with its Last Night of the Proms concert at the Parr Hall.
The evening also marked the 89th birthday of oldest choir member Harold Lunt and the final concert of Frank Jennings who, after 34 years with the choir, is set to retire to Cyprus.
The introduction of Sale Chamber Orchestra as the choir's musical guests was received well by the packed audience.
Contralto soloist Jan Hutchings treated the audience to songs from South Pacific and Guys and Dolls as well as Thomas Arne's Rule Britannia.
The concert concluded with a much-anticipated finale of Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
Barrie Johnson, choir chairman said: "This was an evening to remember. Each year we are noticing that Christmas concert tickets are rapidly approaching gold dust status.
"Two years ago, the choir was questioning whether a Last Night would work in the town, should the proms become a two night event?"
