WARRINGTON Wizards' amateur rugby league season came to a disappointing end on Saturday when they lost at St Albans 46-24 in their National League Three elimination semi final.
Wizards fell behind when Centurions went over in the fourth minute and two more tries left the visitors trailing 16-0.
Craig Harris put Jamie Clarke over and they were back in the game before half time when Steven Smythe found his way across the whitewash from dummy half and Paul Berry benefited from Lee Rushton's offload.
St Albans surged ahead again with a try shortly after the interval, but Wizards did not give up and Clarke's break split the Centurions defence to allow the second rower to set up Dave Kelly.
A controversial refereeing decision turned the game though, as Berry was penalised for not playing the ball when it appeared that the tackle had not been completed, and St Albans took advantage with a try before quickly adding two more.
Mark Roughneen notched a consolation effort for Wizards.
