WARRINGTON Anglers' Association have received no feedback from the Environment Agency for some time regarding the carp deaths that have affected our waters.

That is despite the fact that we are in constant communication with them, and if there are no more reported carp deaths before our management committee meet next week then the committee will look at the possibility of reopening our carp waters.

Until then all the predominantly carp waters remain closed.

The concern is that because the actual cause of the deaths has remained unknown, we do not know if the suspected virus will remain dormant in the waters and will return given the right conditions.

I would ask all anglers to remain vigilant and report any fish fatalities or fish in distress immediately.

Quite a few new pegs have been constructed on the big lake at Sandiway, which has opened up the water for more anglers. Some of those pegs are double pegs that will accommodate two anglers.

Also, work is ongoing on the small lake to create all-weather pegs that will not be affected by the varying water levels that the lake seems to experience.

It was nice to see a good turnout for a match on the Bridgewater Canal on Sunday, with approximately 40 anglers taking part.

The weights were not fantastic but they were consistent, with a weight of 5lbs taking the honours.

Warrington Anglers' juniors and intermediates took part in the North West NFA competition on the Sankey Canal in Newton on Saturday.

Once again the junior team took the honours, winning their match with brothers Richard and Michael Chung finishing in first and third place respectively.

The intermediate team also won their event, with Andrew Lewis taking first place in the individual competition.

I would like to congratulate the team, the manager, the coaches and the parents for their help and involvement, because without them we would not be as successful as we are.

Two members - Adrian Abbotts and Steve Beck - experienced a good day's fishing on the River Ribble, with Adrian taking 70lbs of barbel between 1lb and 7lbs on feeder-fished maggot, while Steve had 30lbs of dace and chub on stick float.

On Sunday, I came across two anglers pike fishing on the Bridgewater Canal and when I asked them for their licences they did not have them - evidently they were poaching our water. This situation will not be allowed to continue and I have instructed the bailiffs to seek assistance from the authorities if they come across it.
