AN 'uncontrollable' teenager who has made Middlewich residents' lives a misery has been made the subject of the town's first youth anti-social behaviour order.
Wesley Tyson Price, 17, of Chadwick Road, was given a two-year ASBO at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court in Crewe on Thursday afternoon.
Officers who brought the ASBO against Price have heralded the result as a major success in their fight against nuisance behaviour and hope it will greatly improve the lives of people affected by Price's aggressive behaviour.
PC Mike Senior, from Middlewich Community Action Team, said the ASBO sends out a strong message that anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in the town.
He said: "The sentence is indicative of how this type of behaviour is no longer tolerated and should be a warning to other people who commit offences."
"People think that ASBOs should be given out more frequently, but they are a powerful tool in the fight against crime and disorder and as such should not be devalued in any way.
"The great thing about the ASBO is that it is in itself similar to a self-tightening knot. The restrictions imposed give the police greater power of arrest in the event of any breaches in the conditions, so the incentive is there not to breach the conditions for fear of being given further custodial sentences."
Roger Need, police community support officer, also welcomed the ASBO and said it should give the public reassurance. He said: "He is well known throughout the area for being aggressive and uncontrollable while under the influence of alcohol."
Middlewich Community Action Team deals with numerous complaints connected to anti-social behaviour including verbal abuse, drunken and disorderly and threatening behaviour, excessive noise and parking issues.
PC Senior said: "Continued abuse of these could lead to the issue of an ASBO. We would encourage anyone suffering from these types of incidents to contact the police."
He added: "It is imperative that Cheshire Constabulary, especially the CAT team, continues to work with the public to raise the quality of life of everybody within the force area.
"Nuisance and anti-social behaviour is a contributing factor, which inevitably has led to an increase in the fear factor associated with crime."
Conditions of Price's ASBO:
Not be in Warmingham, Lane, Middlewich, between Chadwick Road and Alexandra Road between 7pm and 7am
Not to enter Wheelock Street or Hightown, to include The Bullring within the boundary of Middlewich
Not to associate with a named youth in any place to which the public has access
Not to be drunk or under the influence of drugs within any public place
Not to use threatening, insulting or abusive words or behaviour in any public place.
