THIS week's Northwich Anglers' Association open was badly affected by the oil spill on the top of the River Weaver, with several anglers not turning up and the rest of the match having to be moved down river.
Despite all the changes, the river fished quite well and the winner this week was Phil Matthews (Warrington Anglers) from peg 2 on the Crescent.
Matthews caught tench bream and rudd for 16-14-0.
Second was John Cheetham, fishing from peg 1, also on the crescent with 12-7-0.
Cheetham, who fishes for the Ted Carter Southport team, also used pole to catch Tench, carp and some smaller fish.
Rod Fraser (Vale Royal Angling) and Albert Malcomson (Dennan North West) finished joint third.
