HELP us crack down on crime this autumn, says Cheshire Police.

Posters throughout the country will carry the message: 'Call time on crime, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555 111' as part of the police's Crackdown On Crime campaign.

The campaign hopes to encourage members of the public to report crime.

Asst Chief Con Gary Shewan said: "Information from the public is essential if police are to target criminals effectively. The force works very closely with Cheshire Crimestoppers, which allows people to leave information anonymously.

"The forthcoming crackdown operations will all rely on quality intelligence and the public are our 'eyes and ears' in the communities to provide us with that information."

A number of operations will take place from October until the end of the year to target offenders throughout the force area, in which police will work alongside partner agencies.

Some 972 anonymous calls were made to Cheshire Crimestoppers, resulting in 131 arrests.

Co-ordinator Tony Molloy said: "For every seven calls made to Cheshire Crimestoppers, police make one arrest.

"More and more people are becoming aware of the charity and are finding it a beneficial means of passing information on to the police. Tell us what you know, not who you are."

Anyone with information about crime can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555 111.
