A UNIQUE Warrington charity set up to support young women suffering from, being treated for, or recovering from breast cancer, has received a surprise cash boost.

Sarah's Stars was set up in November last year and named after 29-year-old Sarah Jenner who died in October last year.

Co-ordinators decided to use Sarah's name because of the positivity she radiated throughout her two-year fight against the disease and her interest in

joining the group.

And now the group has been awarded a £5,000 lottery grant to help with set up costs for the group, to fund the charity's pamper days and to train group co-ordinators.

The charity aims to boost the self esteem of and offer support to young women affected by cancer and monthly meetings include visits from guests speakers on topics ranging from drug treatment and medication for women who wish to start families, to genetics and family history.

Hair stylists from Johnson's hairdressers have also visited the meetings to demonstrate to members how to manage and style short hair after chemotherapy.

Members are also treated to pamper days at the Park Royal Hotel in Stretton to help them regain self-confidence and enjoy quality 'me' time.

Carolyn Hanley, charity chairman said: "Although we offer support for young women coping with breast cancer because their issues can be very different from those of older women, we do not have an age limit because we firmly believe that a woman is as young as she feels.

"We applied for £5,000 but never imagined we'd get that amount, so we would have been happy with whatever they gave us, but to find out that we had got the full amount was just wonderful news."

The charity is appealing for autographed auction items for its Valentine Ball to be held on February 11. If you can help call Carolyn on 0151424 2491 or Sue Moon on 711492.
