A PUPIL got to spend a day as head teacher in a parting gift from his school.

Joshua Jeram, from Penketh High School, shadowed head teacher Barry Fishwick on Monday before his family move back to Portsmouth.

The 14-year-old said: "It was a fantastic day. I went in to quite a few meetings and I got to call all the teachers by their first names.

"I also got to give some awards out in assembly.

"I always wanted to be a vet but this will definitely be a second choice."

Josh had decided to shadow the head for his work experience later this year but the date was brought forward when it was found he had to leave after three-and-a-half years at the school.

A school spokesman said: "Josh has shown a great maturity during his time at Penketh.

"He has led the school council on a number of occasions and was a key player in the school's working party in developing a travel plan culminating in a significant award for the school.

"Josh will be missed by all his teachers and peers and we wish him the best of luck for the future."
