THIS is the latest picture of the new bus station - but the temporary station is proving a hit in its own right.
A survey has found that 55 per cent of people using the 14-stop temporary station in Horsemarket Street actually prefer it to the old permanent station, which was 30 years old.
The temporary station will be with us until the ultra modern new station will be completed in May next year, and work is understood to be progressing well.
Early in October, the access route to the temporary station through Golden Square will be reopened.
There will be a temporary lift installed and the escalators will be running again.
They were closed to allow foundation work on the site of the new station.
People with mobility problems or with pushchairs have been forced to go round through Horsemarket Street but they will soon be able to use the undercover route.
The old station closed on July 20 and shoppers have been able to watch this week as the demolition works are completed and it is flattened. The new station is expected to cost around £7m and it forms a key part of the town centre development.
It will come complete with a bright, modern passenger environment, a travel centre, electronic bus information screens and shops.
