CONGLETON'S streets will be glowing more brightly than ever this Christmas.
The lights show is overseen by Congleton Community Project, and is a mixture of curtain and garland lights.
But the lights have been used for five years, and need a facelift.
Now Congleton Town Council has stepped in to help by providing a £15,000 cash injection for the illumination.
As a result there will be new lights through the town centre, in Lawton Street, High Street, Bridge Street, Duke Street and Swan Bank.
Some of the existing lights could be used to illuminate the community garden in Lawton Street.
The lights are being bought from Burnley-based company Lite.
The town council is to buy all the lights in one go, and pay for them in three equal instalments over three years.
Jo Money from Congleton Community Project saw the lights first hand this week during a visit to the Burnley company.
She was accompanied by Congleton town clerk John Herod and town cllr Margaret Williamson.
"We are over the moon with the money for the lights from the town council," said Jo Money.
"We would have to do an enormous amount of fund-raising to raise £15,000."
