Accident blackspots throughout Widnes have claimed the lives of several drivers and passengers over the past 12 months.

"We want to make people more aware of the dangers," said firefighter Andy Royle, manager of red watch at Widnes Fire Station.

"We will be offering advice and handing out leaflets to try to reduce deaths and injuries."

Emergency services have teamed up to stage a road safety awareness day from 10am to 4pm on Friday, September 30 outside Morrisons and TJ Hughes in Widnes.

Dramatic images of smashed vehicles will warn people of the consequences of collisions.
