PLANNING bosses have given the go ahead to proposals for new offices in Nantwich town centre, despite objections from the town council and civic society.
The plans for the offices and medical consulting rooms were put together by Muller Property Holdings for land to the rear of Chapel Court, next to Morrison's car park.
The development will also involve a small car park, with pedestrian access to the site through a short passageway from Hospital Street.
But Nantwich town councillors said the plans would represent an 'over-development' of what is a small backyard site.
And they objected to the plans arguing that the site was previously granted planning permission as a car park in connection with the Lamb Hotel development.
Members of Nantwich Civic Society echoed this view, insisting the arrangement must have influenced the planning decision to allow the hotel development.
Objections also come from the nearby Le Caf de Paris, about the effect of the construction work might have on future business.
But recommending approval of the plans, a council planning spokesman said: "The building will make a positive contribution to the townscape of the locality and the edge of the conservation area."
The proposals were passed by planning chiefs at a meeting of the development control committee in Crewe on Tuesday.
