Deeley grabs win in President's Cup
BROOKLANDS bowler Avis Deeley won Cheshire's President's Cup on Saturday after defeating St Oswalds' Irene Reardon 21-18.
Deeley had previously beaten St Oswalds' Barbara Beddall in the semi finals of the Alexandra Park event, while Reardon overcame Brooklands' Brenda Newton.
Brooklands also enjoyed team success when their victory in Cheshire's Guardian Cup earned them a place in April's Championship play-offs.
They beat Alford in the final after defeating St Oswalds in the semis.
Carter gets prize
THE £1,000 first prize in the Billy Bennett Memorial Trophy competition played at Alford Hall went to outsider Dave Carter.
He beat odds-on favourite Kevin Shaw 21-9 in the final.
The best Warrington performers were Steve Brown, who reached the semi finals, and Kevin Wainwright, who went out in the quarter finals.
Record breaker
WARRINGTON Dolphins swimmer Judy Brown set new county records in four events at the Cheshire Masters Championships in Macclesfield.
She won all four of her races in a Dolphins team that narrowly missed out on first place in the team event to Macclesfield.
In the last open water swim of the season, Andy Wright won the veterans' race at Loch Earn in Scotland after completing the 6.5-mile course in 3hrs 9mins, while Kevin Saunders was second in 3hrs 21mins.
Clarkson races in
WINWICK racer John Clarkson has joined Hayley Moss in the second round of the competition to win ProSpeed Motorsport's Rally Scholarship for 2005.
Clarkson, who is only 18, qualified for the penultimate round of the contest in Lincolnshire on September 28 by impressing the judges in the opening round.
He will be in competition for the prize of a sponsored trip to the John Haugland Rally School in Norway with Moss, who has also reached the second stage.
Inaugural victory
LYMM Hockey Club defeated Sale's third team 2-1 in the first match in the club's history.
Richard Armishaw pounced on a loose ball to put Lymm ahead and James Gibbon blasted a second before Sale grabbed a consolation.
