BIRCHWOOD band members are on the look out for a sponsor to help revive some of their instruments.

The 25 musicians in the Birchwood Community Brass Band are hoping to find a sponsor so they can replace some of their instruments which are old and worn out.

The band has struggled to find the funds to buy new equipment from among its members.

Band Secretary Ken Jolley said: "We cover a lot of different events, not just in Birchwood but the wider area as well, such as Runcorn, Widnes and Chester.

"A lot of our brass band instruments are old and now need replacing and we need a way to fund that.

"We have never had a sponsor before, although we have received some funding from organisations such as Birchwood Town Council. If we could find a sponsor then we would be able to play when they required us and it would be advertised at our performances."

The group has been running for 20 years and meets at Birchwood School on a Wednesday evening to practise.

The members of the band, who range between ages 15 and 82, perform at parties, functions and event openings.

In the run up to the festive season the band will be playing at Birchwood mall on the three Saturdays before Christmas.

The band is also on the lookout for new members and are encouraging anyone over the age of 14 to get in touch.

The band is able to teach people how to play and you don't even need your own instrument to become a member of the band.
