A FATHER of three accused of assaulting his estranged wife has been found not guilty of common assault this week.
Leon Tinkley, aged 27, of Poplars Avenue, Orford, was cleared by Warrington magistrates on Tuesday after he told the court the he was the abused and not the abuser.
Victoria Chadwick, aged 21, told the court how Mr Tinkley arrived at the former marital home in December last year to look after their five-month-old son while she went to work.
She alleged that on entering the house he struck her across the face with a pair of walking boots and slapped and kicked her.
But Mr Tinkley told the court how Miss Chadwick had called him that morning at his parents home and shouted a torrent of abuse down the phone.
He denied assaulting her and said he merely restrained her in a bid to stop the violent attack, which he said had occurred before.
