GOLBORNE and Lowton are the cheapest places to live in the area according to a property website report.

Average house prices in Golborne and Lowton are the lowest in Warrington and the surrounding areas, with Windy Bank Avenue, in Lowton the least expensive road with an average sale price of just £44,750.

Property price website OurProperty.co.uk compiles house price statistic reports from data provided by the Land Registry, the official Government agency who deal with all property transactions and ownership in England, Wales and Scotland.

At the time of publication Golborne had six roads in the website's ten least expensive streets, with average prices ranging from £48,000 to £61,000.

Heath Street, Lowe Street, Salisbury Avenue, Legh Street, Bank Street and May Street all appeared in the list and were joined by Lowton properties in Windy Bank Avenue and Westhead Avenue.

Joe McLoughlin, director and co-founder of OurProperty.co.uk said: "Low prices come down to location, location, location.

"They tend to be based on factors such as access to good schools, shopping facilities and transport links like roads and railways.

"We present information about house prices to more than half a million users for free, to give them the power so they no longer have to rely on estate agents."

Users of the site can find out what price to pitch a property for sale or when buying see if they are paying over the odds.

A spokesman for Wigan Council said: "I think it is fair to say that when including Golborne and Lowton in lists with Warrington properties these prices probably reflect Golborne's status as a former pit village."
