WINSFORD United manager Dave Twite has warned his team they are playing for their places in the squad.

Twite watched in horror as his side lost 2-0 to basement side Blackpool Mechanics and believes some of his players weren't working as hard as they could.

He said: "Some of the players seemed to have the mentality that it was going to be easy and that they didn't have to try as hard as normal.

"I don't understand that to be honest because we have a strong squad and maybe it's time to change things around.

"I'm disappointed because I know how hard they can work and I felt if they'd just kept going and given a bit more on Saturday we'd have got something from the game."

He added: "I'm going to have a good chat with them this week and get them working hard.

"The problem with us seems to be that there are no grey areas.

"We are either really good or really bad, there's no in between.

"We need to develop and learn how to win even when we aren't quite playing to our full potential.

Cammell Laird probably had a few poor games last season, but you wouldn't know as they went on to win or draw them and we need to be like that."

Winsford have the opportunity to get their campaign back on track this Saturday when they play host to Holker Old Boys (3pm).

And Twite is delighted that he will have a few more options.

He said: "Dave Chambers is back in contention and we'll have Craig Robinson back in the team.

"We really missed Craig on Saturday. He's been outstanding since he came in at right back and he's a great talker when he's on the pitch."

However, Winsford could be without midfielder Chris Melia who picked up a knock at Blackpool.
