RESIDENTS on the Over estate are delighted that their calls for road improvements have been answered by Cheshire County Council.

Concerns were raised in last week's Guardian that lives were at risk because of a lack of road markings on the estate - but Cheshire County Council has this week carried out the much needed work.

According to campaigners, four youngsters have been knocked down during the past few years as they tried to cross Mount Pleasant Drive, near to Woodford Lodge High School and the BMX track.

Alan Bailey, Over4All residents' association chairman, has been calling for the improvements to be carried out for more than two years.

He said: "It is excellent news for us and will benefit the community greatly.

"Children use the area a lot so it is extremely important that the roads are safe for them to use."

Alan Halpin, who was vice chairman of the residents' association between 2000 and 2004, said: "This is brilliant and it is pleasing to know that when you raise an issue something gets done about it.

"There was an article in the Guardian on Wednesday and this week the white lines are being painted so we are all delighted.

"We are now looking at improvements to the mini roundabouts because that is another cause for concern."
