to reduce speeding

POLICE are hoping to slow down motorists travelling through Tarporley through the use of a speed indicator device.

The roadside equipment, which flashes the speed motorists are travelling as they pass, will be seen in the village during the next few weeks.

Scheme coordinator officer John Donaldson said: "We're not out to catch speeding motorists.

"We want to raise drivers' awareness of their speed and get them to slow down in areas where speeding is a concern.

"The beauty of the equipment is that it gets drivers to slow down without the use of speed traps or cameras, which attract a lot of criticism.

"The ultimate responsibility lies with drivers themselves.

"Roads have speed limits for a reason and when drivers break them they are not only putting themselves at risk.

"Sticking to the limits will help keep safe drivers and everyone else who uses the roads."
