POLICE are warning residents to beware of bogus callers claiming to be collecting money on behalf of the RSPCA.
The warning has come following two incidents in which people knocked on residents' doors asking for a cash donation.
The first incident took place on September 12 when a man and a woman knocked on the door of a house on Merlin Close but were not able to produce identification.
The second incident took place on September 13 when two men approached a home on Kingsway but again were unable to produce identification.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Residents should be aware of unsolicited callers at the door who aren't known to them personally and are asking for cash donations for charity.
"The RSPCA has confirmed that their fundraisers do not collect cash at the door and will be wearing blue tops and have identification with a number which can be checked. They will only ask for donations in the form of direct debit."
Police are now urging anyone who is approached by a bogus caller or has not yet reported a similar incident to contact them on 0845 458000 or Winsford CAT on 0845 4586391.
