A TEENAGER once described as a 'one man crime wave' in Winsford has spent his 18th birthday in custody after he was convicted of breaching his anti-social behaviour order.
Kyle Colin Bannaghan, 18, of Gladstone Street, was sentenced to two concurrent 10-month detention and training orders by magistrates at Northwich Youth Court last Wednesday after admitting carrying out a burglary - and in the process causing criminal damage - on August 12 this year. He had been made subject to a 12-month ASBO on September 29 last year for nine offences, including grievous bodily harm.
Prosecuting, Nigel James told the court that Bannaghan had broken into Martin the Newsagent, on Dingle Walk, shortly after 8.30pm.
He said CCTV footage had helped to identify Bannaghan, who could be seen kicking a door and removing items to the value of more than £2,000 with three other people.
Chris Johnson, defending, said Bannaghan had been walking home from a night out when he noticed someone trying to break into the shop.
He said: "Kyle was under the influence of alcohol - he is disappointed in himself and knows he was silly to become involved.
"Sadly, burglary is a new enterprise for Kyle to add to his long list of previous convictions."
He added that Bannaghan was due to go away last weekend with his parents to celebrate his birthday.
When asked by chairman of the bench John Argust if he had anything to say, Bannaghan replied that he realised what he had done and was 'gutted' to be in trouble again.
Mr Argust replied: "By committing the burglary you breached your ASBO and have left us with no option but to send you to custody."
He said the fact the offence had been committed so close to a previous order was an aggravating factor in the length of Bannaghan's sentence.
