HOMEOWNERS in Castlefields have benefited from Halton's first equity release scheme.
The Home Improvement loan scheme allows homeowners to borrow money to improve their homes by using part of the value of the old house.
Bill Manns, 85, from Chester Close, said: "This is an absolute gem of an idea, just what I was looking for - I've got a fabulous new kitchen, new windows, a new front door and I'm not burdened by paying a loan back monthly."
The project allows homeowners to borrow up to 80% of the free equity in their home and there is no monthly repayment as the loan will not be repaid until the property changes ownership.
Cllr Arthur Cole added: "I believe that this scheme is an excellent way for eligible homeowners to make a significant improvement to their home and living conditions."
