SPECIAL children sometimes need a little extra help, which is why a group that runs play schemes just for them is so important.
The Warrington Association for Special Children (WASC), set up in 1986, ensures that play schemes for up to 55 children with learning difficulties, aged five to 19, run in the town during school holidays.
When the Warrington Guardian visited a club held in St Thomas scout hut, Alexandra Road, Stockton Heath - a fancy dress party was in full swing.
Denise Shaw, chairman, said: "Our children have to be led by the hand to do things and many have autistic tendencies so could not cope in the very busy environments of mainstream play schemes.
"We do a lot of arts and sensory activities because the children often find it difficult to use toys."
The group also runs after school classes during term time and volunteers are always needed. For details ring 493838.
