A NEW initiative which is literally ground-breaking is now available to help clubs and schools across town.
Warrington RUFC is the one of the first beneficiaries of a new state-of-the-art tractor which ensures pitches can withstand prolonged use.
The tractor delivered to Warrington RUFC is one of 15 recently bought by the Rugby Football Union for £500,000 to boost pitches across the country.
And it will be available not just at the Warrington Sports Club pitches in Walton, but for clubs and schools across the area.
Peter Riley, chairman of the club, said: "Looking after pitches is a priority to ensure that players enjoy their sport and that playing surfaces are not destroyed and games cancelled because of bad weather.
"A great many drainage problems and poor grass cover can be put down to soil compaction and this equipment will help to combat that problem.
"It will also prove very important as we try to manage our limited playing facilities to cope with the increasing numbers of new players, especially at junior level."
