A 'SHORT-sighted approach' to tackling issues could end with a bad accident.
That's the claim councillors are making about the highway's departments approach to busy traffic on Cromwell Avenue that goes through Westbrook and Great Sankey.
Councillors believe the borough council is being too restricted by guidelines when it comes to placing warning 30mph signs along the busy stretch of road.
Whittle Hall Clr Judith Wheeler said: "We have been told it is against regulations to have any more signs because there is street lighting - so there is nothing at all to deter speeders.
"And we have also been told that we will not be given traffic calming measures because it is not a priority area.
"We feel that this is a short-sighted approach and do not want to wait for a bad accident to force Warrington Borough Council to do something."
Phil Johnson, Warrington Borough Council's head of transportation, explained the department had to be guided by national rules. He said: "National guidance stipulates how speed limits should be signed.
"A new toucan crossing has recently been introduced on Cromwell Avenue a short distance from Old Hall Road."
