PROPOSALS to extend the opening hours of Nantwich's nightclub are proving a nightmare for nearby residents already suffering from disturbed sleep due to drunken revellers.

Council licensing bosses will decide tomorrow, Friday, whether to allow Lava Ignite, on Bowers Row, to open until 3am (2am on Monday mornings) and relax their members-only rules.

Eight letters of objection have been received from residents who fear that existing violence, vandalism and noise problems will be exacerbated by later closing times at the former Gregory's night spot.

Lynda Schofield of Mill Street, writes: "Nuisance noise is already caused by the music from the club as well as foul language, fights and altercations, taxis revving engines and playing music.

"There is also the unsocial behaviour in the streets, urinating and vomiting in shop doorways, broken windows etc, and all for an extra hour each night the club is open."

And Mr Gutteridge, of High Street, added: "When Gregory's is on I average four hours sleep - if you give them their extension to 3am that will go down to about three.

"Surely as residents we have human rights."

Under the new proposals the club could provide music, dancing, boxing, wrestling and films until 3am.

Environmental health officials have stipulated no noise should come from the building, refuse such as bottles can be disposed of only until 8pm and notices be placed at all exits asking customers to leave the area quietly.

A spokesman for Lava Ignite said that "if a DJ is used on any night they will ask customers to leave quietly" and outside lighting will remain on.
