Mixed Pairs League dates
ENTRIES are being accepted for three Warrington Sunday Night Mixed Pairs Bowls League competitions.
The Eric Smith event will take place at Rylands on September 25, while the Multicolour competition will be held on October 2 at Richmonds, where the Rose Bowl will take place on October 9.
All three events will start at 10.30am with an 11am scratch.
Anyone wanting to enter any of the competitions should contact Dave Griffiths on 485292.
Mountain master
WARRINGTON Athletics Club's Steve Burthem finished 56th in the over 45s category of the World Masters Mountain Running Championships held at Skiddaw Fell in Keswick on Saturday.
Burthem completed the 11.6km course in 1hr 5mins 47secs.
Kenny Forster finished in 91st in 1hr 9mins 1sec, while Cinnamon Brow's Geoff Settle finished in 146th in 2hrs 6mins 26secs in the over 50s race.
Karon Forster was 43rd in the women's event in 1hr 27mins 9secs, while Anne Hewitt finished 17th in the women's over 55s short course race in 1hr 25mins 47secs, and Neville Griffith was 30th as he completed the men's short course in 54mins 3secs.
Make a move
GRAPPENHALL Chess Club will welcome new members when their season starts at Grappenhall Community Centre in Bellhouse Lane at 6.30pm tomorrow, Friday.
Anyone aged seven or over is encouraged to join, the children's club, with all standards from beginners to junior international level catered for.
Team stride out
SPECTRUM Striders' women's side won the team prize at the Trafford 10km road.
Claire Davies, Nabilah Salihi and Beth Chamberlain stole the limelight in the team competition, with Davies also taking second place in the women's individual race.
Mervyn Ward finished third in the men's over 50s category, while Janet Redpath was third in the women's over 50s race.
Indoor season
FIXTURE lists for the new Warrington Indoor Bowls League season will be distributed by Harry Lockett at Smithys Club on September 23 from 7.30pm.
Further details, including the revised scoresheets, will also be handed out ahead of the season, which starts on September 26.
Coniston ace
WARRIORS of Warrington swimmer Julie Connor was pipped at the post in British Long Distance Swimming Association's annual 5.25-mile Junior Coniston Championship.
Connor put in a fine performance in her first attempt at Coniston to finish second to Halifax's Lauren O'Neill by eight seconds.
Classic finale
THE final of the King and Queen Classic will take place tomorrow, Friday, at 6.30pm.
Several of Warrington's top bowlers are bidding to win the event, which commenced on Monday at King and Queen.
