September 1 was the day of Moore and Daresbury WI Show. We had sections for produce, horticulture, floral art and handicraft. The room looked wonderful and the tables groaned under the weight of scones, shortbread, jams, chutneys, tomatoes, beans and apples, not to mention the embroideries, patchwork items and the wonderful floral art.
The children did their grandparents and great-grandparents proud, as their exhibits were delightful. Even the men were persuaded to bake date and walnut cakes and the winner was Richard Gunson.
At the end of the evening, president, Dianne Ross, presented cups to the winners. The horticulture cup was won by Lynn Goodkin, floral art by Rita Pyne, handicraft by Mary Trout and the produce by Anne Gunson, who also won the embroidery The wisteria window.
In the art section for men, the watercolour was won by Brian Leitch and the oil painting by Peter Richmond. We all agreed it was a very successful show.
Our next meeting is on October 6 when John Doughty will talk about Folklore and Traditions of the north west. You are welcome to join us.
