THE September meeting included an exhibition of members' handicraft skills and took place in a most attractively decorated hall, with a very impressive display of work, including painting, sculpture, needlework, knitting and embroidery, all beautifully displayed.

After members and visitors had been welcomed and Judy Hughes thanked for her delightful table flowers, news was given of sick members.

Coming events include the WI's 90th birthday, the afternoon tea on September 29 and next week's trip to Lancashire. Anne Patterson, treasurer, who is to move next week to Yorkshire, was presented with a gift in recognition of her valuable services, for which she thanked everyone.

The speaker, Hilary Thompson, who is in charge of the Fair Trade stall in Warrington Market, explained the origins of Fair Trade, an organisation set up in the 1970s to market foods and crafts throughout the world. Mrs Thompson had brought with her a large number of goods, all produced for the organisation and showed in her talk how it is helping to reduce world poverty. She was thanked for her informative and moving talk by Sue Rainford.

Winners of the competition A holiday photo were 1 Gwenyth Altman, 2 Barbara Broomfield, 3 Sue Withinshaw.
