PIERPOINTS suffered a thumping in the first round of Warrington Sunday Soccer League's Premier Cup as they lost 11-3 at Vulcan.

They had recovered from 4-0 down to make it 4-3 before succumbing to another onslaught, and they were joined on the way out of the competition by Wanderers, who lost 2-1 to Real Gate.

In the first round of the Presidents Cup, Farmers Arms came from 2-0 down to defeat Culcheth 3-2 thanks to goals from Mark Williams, Phil Scott and 16-year-old Paul Benns.

John Smith scored four and Tony Cornelia, Dave Taylor and Jamie Pates also found the net as General Electronique completed a 7-3 fleecing of Fleece, for whom Darren Ashton struck twice and Paul Rimmer also scored.

Stu Norman grabbed a hat-trick and Aldy Francis scored twice as Rams Head hammered Ex Servicemans 9-1, with Andy James, Ryan Taylor, Chris Rowson and Gary Smith also on target.

Three goals for Craig Hoyland, two for Mike Brough and others for Ian Berry and Dave Yardley helped Socrates beat Red Lion 7-0, while Penketh and Sankey Eagle edged past Brooklands 3-2 thanks to two from Chris Caffery and one from Darren Jones.

Strikes from Mike Melia and Matt Dando were not enough to prevent Callands from exiting the competition with a 4-2 defeat against Elephant.

Peter Clarke scored all four goals as Original Wire overcame Inter Mivan 4-2 after extra time in the first round of the Red Lion Cup.

Paul Davies, Shaun Murphy, Dave Jones and Ross Jenkins scored as Middleton defeated Spa Brook 4-2, while Grappenhall thrashed Lymm Park 6-1.
