TWO friends were thrown through the air after a car mounted the pavement and hit them.
Luckily, Danielle Monaghan and Laura Wilford only suffered grazes and bruises.
"I was absolutely terrified," said Danielle's mum Jacky.
"Some girls knocked on the door and said 'Danielle's been run over'. I have never run so fast in my life."
The pair were injured at around 9.35pm on Monday night - a bike they had was mangled by the impact.
Danielle was sent flying over the car, while Laura bounced off the bonnet.
The vehicle carried on and smashed into a wall and a fence in Gale Avenue, Dallam.
Danielle, aged 16, from Hodgkinson Avenue, said: "I froze. There was nowhere for us to run.
"We just saw the headlights coming towards us.
"People said I was lying about 15 feet away from where it happened."
Laura, aged 16, said: "Someone must have pulled me from the car and I ran towards the house and collapsed."
Mum Jacky added: "They were trying to shove each other out the way but they can't remember much after that.
"The police said the kerb saved them by taking the speed off the car."
A police spokesman said a car had been reported shortly before the incident for driving erratically. They are investigating.
The girls were taken to Warrington Hospital.
Danielle had serious bruising to her legs and a bump to her head while Laura had bruising and grazing to her arms and legs.
Laura was initially put on a heart monitor and the pair were discharged around 2am.
