A NURSE from Lymm is both serving the country and illustrating children's books.

Aisla Birchenough is currently finishing her final year studying mental health at Salford University, had the opportunity to illustrate a children's book arose while working at the David Lewis Centre for epilepsy.

Having worked there for four years helping with the children, the 25-year-old was approached by Karl Simmons who wrote the first of the tales.

This August saw the release of PC Dann. Beware of the Bull, this is the only story so far but they are keen to write more stories with lessons for young children in them.

Aisla said: "It's about a friendly English policeman and his adventures in the countryside."

As well as helping with the

illustrations, after a recommendation from a fellow student nurse, Aisla has also signed up for the RAF reserves.

The reserves are not something she intends to take on full time, nor are illustrations, but instead she sees it as a challenge and a break from the normal.

Training in the reserves as a medic is only part time, taking only one week a month and more in summer which leaves the Ridgeway resident free to pursue her studies in sign language.

The book is picking up interest even though the market is very competitive, however Aisla is just proud to have her name on the book and to be involved.
