CAMPAIGNERS say it is unacceptable that residents in Lowton still have no post office - three weeks after three others closed.
Three post offices in the village closed on August 23 and residents were assured that a replacement would be opened before then.
However, as the Newton and Golborne Guardian went to press, there was no sign of the new post office, based in the Londis store on Newton Road, opening up for business.
Now Postwatch Northern England has launched an attack on the delay.
Judith Donavan, regional director, said: "Postwatch has always maintained that Lowton residents should have unbroken access to local post office services. This is what we agreed with Post Office Limited.
"We expected Lowton's new post office to be open long before now. We were recently told the new Lowton post office would open on August 22 and the three branches due to close would do so the day after.
"It is unacceptable that the closures have been allowed to go ahead without the replacement branch being open.
"Post Office Limited has had months to sort this out. Postwatch calls for post office services to be reintroduced in Lowton without further delay."
The branches already closed are Lowton St Mary's, St Luke's Lowton and Lowton SPSO.
The Post Office Ltd was unavailable to comment as the Newton and Golborne Guardian went to press
