AN OAK carving of a quarryman reflecting the history of Runcorn Hill is being created this week.
Children aged eight and nine are being invited to join artist Angela Sidwell for a series of workshops.
The art project is being funded by a lottery grant.
The quarryman carving will be linked to sandstone carvings in the rockface of a common lizard and dinosaur, known to have inhabited the area.
Halton Council rangers are teaming up with Friends of Runcorn Hill, to organise events and activities for children and adults and improve the park.
'Stories Best Told In The Dark' was the first project volunteers helped to organise.
Two lantern workshops were followed by a procession around the boating lake.
A professional storyteller relaying tales on the hill will be repeated this October as it proved so popular.
Brass and jazz bands have been performing Sunday afternoon concerts throughout the summer in the newly refurbished bandstand.
Proceeds from refreshments, served by volunteers, will help to fund more concerts next year.
