A MIDDLEWICH councillor who believes the town has been overlooked by county officials says things are looking up.

In the past year Clr Mike Parsons has been vocal in championing the town's highways needs, claiming that Cheshire County Council often overlooks Middlewich on important issues.

In March he said the county council was discriminating against Middlewich by putting money before the well being of residents.

In July he highlighted seven safety concerns put before the county council's highways department 18 months previously that had not been acted on, including improved signage on Croxton Lane, damaged fencing at King Street railway bridge and along the A530.

But now Clr Parsons believes persistence has produced results because at last week's joint highways meeting there were three recommendations to implement safety measures in the town.

As a result plans are in place to improve signs and road markings on Croxton Lane Bridge, refurbish Cledford Lane bridge and amend signs and markings on Lewin Street near the White Lion pub.

Work has also been earmarked to improve safety near King Street railway bridge.

Clr Parsons said: "While we are not exactly getting the gold star treatment we have been promised action and they are looking at quite a few things and I'm very pleased.

"The council is also going to repair the guttering at West Street which is good news for the homeowners there who keep getting flooded."

He added: "It shouldn't be a case of who shouts the loudest but if being a thorn in the council's side gets results like this, I'll keep on shouting."
