CLUB Mid Cheshire A got off to an excellent start in the First Division of the Stiga North West Super League on Friday.

Despite fielding a weakened team the A team defeated Ramsbottom Town 5-2 with brothers Brian and Mike Johns winning their singles matches and combining to win the doubles.

Mark Roscaleer, a 16-year-old debutant, was promoted from the 2nds, and played well to take games off both Jim Chadwick and Mark Ramsbottom.

In Division Two all four matches finished 4-3. Northwich won an exciting match against Wirral Premier B with George Abbot taking the deciding games 11-6, 11-6, 11-5.

But Nigel Rafferty was the star for Northwich winning both his singles matches and joining forces with Abbott to win the doubles.

Hartford schoolgirl Fiona Dennett lined up for Wirral and, having lost to Rafferty, beat Steve Stockton 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 12-14, 11-8.

Meanwhile Club Mid Cheshire B lost 4-3 to Wolverhampton club Woodfield.

Andrew Davies had good wins over Chris Tarr and John Collymore and James Eaton beat Tarr, but 15-year-old Jake Shaw found the opposition too strong.
