WINNINGTON Park RUFC eventually overcame a spirited Lymm side, principally through an excellent display of controlled rugby from their stand off Gary Bell.
Bell secured the game mid way through the second half when he intercepted the ball and ran half the length of the field to score under the posts.
This came at a time when Lymm were mounting a strong reply following Park's domination of the first half.
From the start of the game Park were able to retain good possession and exerted continuous pressure on the visiting Lymm team.
This allowed both their wingers to score fairly straightforward tries. Firstly Nathan Archer finished an attacking move from the backline to score and later in the half John Evans collected a loose ball to finish an incisive home move.
These two scores were separated by two penalties from Bell, who also had an excellent day with his field goals and his tactical kicking.
Winnington continued to take the game to the visitors after the break, but the game turned dramatically as Lymm began to retain the ball and they released two swift attacks on the Park line.
First they broke free on the half way line and when winger Morris received the ball he stepped inside the cover to score under the posts. They followed this with a similar move which allowed Thorp to score and for Hullington to improve the score again to 18-14.
It was during this period of Lymm ascendancy that Park lost a man, when Evans was dismissed for the careless use of a boot.
At this stage the game was in the balance and the tension was only relieved with Bell's intercepted try and conversion.
Park took great heart from this and were able to take control again with Iain Moriarty and Archer both going over.
Winnington then relaxed and Lymm grabbed a late try through Kinsey, but it wasn't enough as Park won 39-21.
l PARK 2nds won a tight match at Widnes 7-5.
Captain Mark Phoenix grabbed Park's only try which was converted by Ian Riddlestone.
l TRIES from Matt Hilton (2), Ben Dodds (2), Simon Bytheway (2) and Dave Williams gave Park Vagabonds a 64-5 win over Tydesley.
