A MAN will stand trial next month after he was involved in a collision that killed a 29-year-old.

Richard Howard, 45, of West Way, Holmes Chapel, will appear at Knutsford Crown Court for allegedly driving without due care and attention.

About 18 statements should be presented from witnesses who gave evidence about the incident or saw Neil Usher before he died. On Monday at Macclesfield Magistrates Court, a defence lawyer said he could leave out unnecessary testimony to shorten the trial.

But a Crown Prosecution Service representative said they should present every statement in full to help Mr Usher's family.

"At least for the family's sake at the back of the court they will know everything has been done," he said.

The lawyers met at the Hibel Road court in Macclesfield at 10am on Monday to discuss details of the case.

They agreed the trial would take place on October 21 and last about four hours.

The Crown Prosecution Service lawyer said he believed members of Mr Usher's family would be at Knutsford Crown Court.

Mr Usher, 29, was involved in a collision with Mr Howard's truck near the Birkin Centre as he walked home from a house party.

The former pupil of Norbury Booths and Knutsford High had left Thorneyholme Drive at about 4.30am on New Year's Day to walk home to Mobberley.

Paramedics took him to Macclesfield Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries, but he was later pronounced dead.
