HUNDREDS of visitors explored Halton's ruins, free of charge, during the national heritage open days last weekend.
Almost 600 people roamed round ancient Norton Priory and Halton Castle.
"The response to our free Open Days has been excellent," said Norton Priory museum director Steve Miller.
"Many people from Halton have visited Norton Priory and Halton Castle for the first time.
"We hope people will enjoy being part of the development of both these precious historic sites over the coming months and years."
The offer of an expert guided tour of Halton Castle by Norton Priory guides attracted 250 visitors.
The two sites, historically linked over the past 800 years, are managed by Norton Priory Museum Trust.
Two £50,000 lottery grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund are helping to shape the future of these two precious historic sites.
