Widnes 3rds 39
Ellesmere Port 17
WIDNES got their season underway with a great win over Ellesmere Port last Saturday.
Despite a late re-shuffle, Widnes tore into the visitors from the off and quickly had a penalty and three tries on the board from Gill, Riley and man of the match Steve Hodgson.
Another try quickly followed from centre Geoff Owens, before Port responded with a well-worked try on the stroke of half time.
The second half was a much more even affair, with the visitors using their forwards to great effect to deny possession to the home side and they were rewarded with two more tries.
In between, however, Colin Par had extended the home side's lead further after good work from Goulding, Syers and centre Dave Breeden.
Graham Riley's trusty right boot completed the scoring.
