A PARK and ride scheme could potentially run along the A49 Winwick Road from the M62 to the town centre in the next five years.
It is a proposal the borough council is studying as it tries to improve traffic flow.
The area is a congestion hot spot, particularly at the junctions with Long Lane and Stretton Crossroads.
The past five years have seen improvement work including the introduction of bus lanes.
The next five could see a park and ride scheme based at junction 9 of the motorway and a new, high quality bus service into the town centre.
A Warrington Borough Council spokesman said: "Work is ongoing to develop the A49 corridor.
"This potentially includes park and ride initiatives, but no final scheme has been developed to date.
"Any agreed scheme would then be submitted to the Department of Transport during the next five years as a major scheme costing more than £5m."
