Recycled store was Scout base
WITH reference to the wonderful photograph of Over Four Lane Ends in Bob Curzon's column in the Winsford and Middlewich Guardian last week.
I was puzzled for a while what the building was between the No 9 Branch of the Co-operative Society and Griff Roberts' white cottage.
Then it occurred to me it was a large wooden building erected to serve as a temporary store for No 9 branch while the store was being rebuilt.
We in the 2nd Over Congregational Scouts bought it for £100 (about £2,500 in today's money) after it had served its purpose.
We dismantled it piecemeal and re-erected it in the field between the Sunday school and Oak House Lane. We used it as a Scout hut but about 20 years ago, the vandals moved in and burned it down.
