CREWE & NANTWICH - 5 OLD ANSELMIANS - 0

GAMES between Crewe & Nantwich and Old Anselmians have over the years always been close run affairs and so it proved again last Saturday.

Having won by a single point earlier in the season this latest league encounter saw Crewe come out on top by a single try.

It was only five minutes into the game when a sweeping move by Crewe, when the ball must have gone through the hands of half the side, ended up with winger Harry Harrison going over in the corner. Unfortunately from the scoring point of view that was it!

Anselmians got over the shock and kept Crewe penned in their own territory for much of the remainder of the first half but the Wirral side rarely looked like scoring apart from a penalty kick that drifted wide.

The second period saw Crewe take the game to the visitors and they in turn rarely crossed the half-way line.

Not a classic game by all means but the defensive covering and tackling of both sides had to be admired.
