POLICE are hunting a man who punched the driver of a car in the face in what looks like a "road rage" incident.

The attacker is said to have smashed the driver's door window of a car waiting at traffic lights to get to the driver inside, after leaving his own car.

Police spokesman Ivor Williams said: "The incident happened at 6.30pm on Saturday on Vernon Way, Crewe, at its junction with West Street.

"The victim says he was waiting at the traffic lights when a white L registration Mondeo pulled up next to him and a man got out of the passenger side.

"The man smashed the window of the victim's car and punched him in the face. He then got back into the Mondeo and it drove off at speed."

The road rage attacker is described as a white male, 30 years old and around 5ft 10ins tall, of proportionate build.

He had receding short dark hair and a moustache.

Police believe that the attack was entirely unprovoked, and would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or knows the identity of the attacker.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Crewe Police on 500222.
