A MOTORBIKE rider was killed and the driver of a car slightly injured in a head-on collision on Friday afternoon.

William Dennis Turner, aged 66, of The Hollow, Mount Pleasant, was certfified dead on arrival at Leighton Hospital after his 650cc Kawazaki motorbike was in collision with a blue Sierra Sapphire on Spring Bank, Scholar Green.

The driver of the car, a 44-year-old man from Congleton, was treated for shock after the incident, which happened at 3.11pm near to the junction with Station Road.

An post mortem revealed that Mr Turner, a retired coach builder, had died from multiple injuries sustained in the crash.

A police spokesman said: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Congleton Police on 01260 271144."
